    This is much better than some of the free apps out there. I love that we can have a family plan and learn several languages at once. My child has taken mandarin and Russian and jumped into the more advanced levels and said that they learned new ways to say things. Each lesson builds on itself and brief review and reinforcement of what was taught in previous lessons is staggered throughout the subsequent lessons. The exercises are great. They help reinforce what was learned. I wish I could access a written transcript because I find myself listening to tricky parts over and over and am not sure that I got the word right.

    I have used Pimsleur off and on for the last 15 years. I love it because I can multitask- I can work at the office, drive, walk the dog, clean, etc all while learning or refreshing my language learning. I don’t have to stare at a screen or look at my phone while using it. Best of all, I always receive compliments on my pronunciation from native speakers when I use Pimsleur. I learn faster and continually better with audio learning than all other types so far- and I have used Berlitz, Duolingo Rosetta Stone, Rocket, Italki (which I highly recommend btw), Busuu (another one of my favourites) as well as college classes. Honestly? Pimsleur is the one that works best for me when it comes to pronunciation, speaking and learning. Downfalls: You will have to make an effort to merely being stuck with certain phrases- outside of class, you will need to try replacing some phrases on the fly to keep it fresh. Grammar- it could use more when it comes to learning grammar rules. It introduces it a little here and there, but it would be great if they had more grammar as a little lesson in writing that comes along with each audio lesson.

    I’ve always wanted to be able to converse with my stepmom in her own language, Croatian. She has now moved back to Croatia with my dad, and I plan on visiting soon. I wish I had known about Pimsleur sooner. I am using it to learn both Croatian and French, as we hope to move to Quebec. My hope is that more Croatian language learners use the app and create more demand for additional levels of Croatian!

  • My Greek was so good

    Initially tried Pimsleur because we were going to Greece. Because it’s all audio, I didn’t get bogged down in the different letters. Taught the rest of my family some Greek and literally every Greek person was so appreciative of our limited Greek. I’ve also been a life long Spanish student. I’ve never had as much improvement as I’ve had with Pimsleur. High school classes. College classes. Duolingo. Rosetta Stone. Pimsleur was hands down SO MUCH BETTER. High school and college just worked on grammar without enough speaking. Duolingo is too based on vocab without enough prep for actual conversation. Rosetta Stone was too fast and not enough repeating. I don’t give reviews often, but actually though Pimsleur deserved it. It’s good. Very good. Ps: don’t get sidetracked by not learning hello how are you in the first lesson. The lessons build well and will teach you those phrases, once you’ve got some basic pronunciation under your belt.

    I love this style of learning. Recursive and in small learning chunks. Speaking, then reading and lots of review. Easy interface with driving.

    This week is a test of the Pimsleur program. I am in Ecuador practicing what I’ve learned. I haven’t even made it thru level 2 but I find I am quite conversant and what I’ve learned in the app is relevant to what I need to communicate on my trip. I’m quite pleased with the results and look forward to continuing my studies when I get back home.

    I have tried several different apps to learn Japanese and none of them satisfied me. This is the first one where I feel like I am actually learning. The way the lessons are taught and the user interface is wonderful. I highly recommend!
